Given the wide range of issues covered by the concept of smart cities, the thesis mainly focuses on four main areas shaping smart cities; It is about smart mobility, energy efficiency, safety and connectivity. These topics accompany the whole work; first in the theoretical and then followed by the practical part. The theoretical part introduces the reader to the issue of smart cities and introduces new technologies that can be used to improve the quality of life and the environment. The subsequent practical part of the work is a detailed analysis of the actual state of the city, prepared on the basis of city documents, publicly available information, media and press releases. The analysis of the city is further supplemented by an interview with Jerry Driessen from the city council and a questionnaire survey among San Jose residents. Following the parsing of this data, the final part of the practical work provides prospects for the future and suggestions for improvement.
